The first Regional Orientation Workshop on Unnat Bharat Abhiyan was organized by Culture For Rural and Tribal Development (CRTD) at NIT Agartala (Tripura) on 29 Feb 2020. This workshop was organized for the Participating Institutes in Tripura to Initiate Work in the Adopted Village Clusters. The program was inaugurated by Dr. D Debbarma (Joint Director, Higher Education) and Prof. Ajay Saini (NCI, IIT Delhi) and presided by Prof. A Chakraborty (Director I/C). In total, 21 faculty members of the Participating Institutes registered and attended this UBA workshop.
Prof. U. Mishra (RCI Coordinator, Professor CED & Chairman CRTD, NIT Agartala) gave the welcome speech and introduced the UBA activities in the state of Tripura to all new PI coordinators of UBA.
Prof. Ajay Saini elaborated on the role of Subject Expert Groups in Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. He also explained the funding process in UBA for the new projects and how more funds can be generated. Prof. K B Mahapatra (College of Agriculture, Bhubaneswar) discussed in detail the importance and possibility of Mushroom farming in Tripura.
Prof. V. K. Vijay (National Coordinator, UBA-IIT Delhi) took the workshop ahead by connecting online through VC and discussed the objectives and mission of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan program in the country. He refined how Higher Education Institutions in Tripura can extend their hands in bridging the gap between education and rural development of their very own region through Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.
Further, Prof. M Mujumder and Prof. T K Bandopadhyay discussed the action plan & other subjects to initiate activities in the adopted villages. Later the participants presented their action plan in the adopted villages.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. D Tripura PI & coordinator CRTD after having visited a Mushroom farm with all participants in Aisa bari – one of the villages adopted by NIT Agartala.
