Kot village of Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, is adopted by Career Point University, Himachal Pradesh. The University decided to work with rural population for its overall development under UBA. After the survey they analysed people of certain community used to make leaf plates (Pattal) using leaves of three species such as Bauhinia vahlii (Taur), Ficus roxburghii (Tremal) and Shorea robusta (Sal) to serve food in marriages and other local functions.
University looked into the matter and started making people aware of using these bio-degradable plates they can give competition to those manufacturers of plastics or polythene plates makers which are in greed of making money and unknowingly harming the environment.
Ladies came up from all the communities and formed a Self Help Group in which they were involved to make pattals to improve their economic status as well as social status and also for the regain of a traditional work that is very much beneficial for ecology and they can totally ignore plastics plates which are very harmful for environment as well as our health.
