SRM Institute of Science and Technology conducted various development activities under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan in 5 adopted villages – Anjur, Thenmelpakkam, Pattaravakkam, Orathur, and Nattarasampattu. Various development projects undertaken by SRM Institute of Science and Technology are listed as follows.
1.Swachh Bharat Summer Internship
The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan team at SRMIST organised Swachh Bharat Summer Internship program for students consecutively in 2018 and 2019. Both villagers and students participated in this drive to make and keep their village clean through various means.

2. Student Solar Ambassador Initiative
To mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, UBA-SRMIST organised Student Solar Ambassador program to encourage students to make their own solar devices and use them. This way, they will not only likely to be future users of solar energy but they’ll also be promoting its usage in their own generations and become Student Solar Ambassadors. More than 1000 students participated in this Student Solar Ambassador program assuring the interest of current and future generation of children towards renewable resources.

3. Ban on Single-use Plastic Awareness Programs
To support the Prime Minister’s call on not to use single-use plastics, the UBA-SRMIST team conducted many awareness rallies and programs in the adopted Villages on 25 October 2019 under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’s “Ban on Single-use Plastic” initiative.

4. RO Water Plant Project
Out of 59 project proposals submitted for the upliftment of rural people in the adopted villages, 3 projects were funded to SRMIST by Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. One of the RO water plant projects has been completed and the RO water plant has been installed in Government School of Orathur village on November 01, 2019.

5. School Improvement
SRM Institute of Science and Technology under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan provided furniture, and electrical appliances like fans, lights and computers to the schools lacking these basic necessities in the adopted villages, during July 2019.

6. Smart Classroom
To help students learn and understand concepts better with the help of technology, the institute established a Smart Classroom at school adopted village Thenmelpakkam on August 07, 2019. Students are now interactively learning the concepts and interest has been shown for more such smart classes.
7. Medical Camp and Distribution of Educational Learning Kits for Science Lab
As a part of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan activities, SRMIST also organized “Medical Camp and Distribution of educational learning kits for Science Lab” on July 10, 2018 at Govt. High School and Primary School, Anjur – one of the five adopted villages under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.

8. Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign
SRM Medical students also organized Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign, took National Pledge and Shramdaan for Collection of Plastic Waste on October 25, 2019, at Thenmelpakkam village. The institute also appointed an elementary school teacher at Thenmelpakkam School and is providing salary to her since January 2019. Lab equipment was also donated for Anjur Village’s higher secondary school.
For all these commendable efforts, SRMIST was also awarded RANK 1 for SWACHH CAMPUS RANKING 2019 by MHRD, RANK 1 for “ONE STUDENT ONE TREE” Project and RANK 3 for “CLEAN AND SMART CAMPUS by AICTE.
