Meendum Manjappai” – Environmental Awareness World Record with 3,000 Students”
The Research and Development Department of Indira Ganesan Institutions, in association with Unnath Bharath Abhiyan (UBA), successfully organized a World Record Environmental Awareness Programme titled “Meendum Manjappai” on 06.01.2026. The event was conducted in a grand and remarkable manner, creating a historic milestone for the institution.
The programme was efficiently coordinated by the R&D Department Coordinators — Dr. K. Chithradevi, Dr. R. Bharath Kumar, Dr.T.Sriram, Prof.Pavithra, along with the Research Coordinator Dr.P.Varalakshmi.
The main objective of the programme was to create awareness about avoiding single-use plastic bags and plastic cups, and to promote the use of eco-friendly cloth bags. More than 3,000 students simultaneously formed a human formation depicting the message “Meendum Manjappai” at the campus, thereby achieving a World Record. As a mark of awareness, 3,000 cloth bags were distributed to the participants.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. G. Rajasekaran, Secretary of Indira Ganesan Educational Institutions. The Director, Dr. G. Balakrishnan, emphasized the institution’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. The Registrar, Dr. M. Anusuya, explained the objectives and social importance of the programme.
The Guest of Honour, Rotarian A.K.S.Srinivasan, and the Chief Guest, Er.S.Sivaranchani, District Environmental Engineer, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, delivered inspiring speeches.
The world record was officially recognized by Mr. K. N. Sakthivel, Senior Evaluator (South Zone) of the Genius International Book of Records, who presented the certificate to the Managing Director of Indira Ganesan Educational Institutions.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. P. Varalakshmi.
