Bhumi Puja for Plastic Recycled Bus Shelter Construction at Nakkala Palle Village
The Centre for Innovation and Social Transformation (CIST) at KG Reddy College of Engineering and Technology successfully conducted the Bhumi Puja ceremony for the construction of a sustainable bus shelter at Nakkal Palli Village on 24 April 2026. The ceremony marked the official commencement of the project, aimed at providing a safe and eco-friendly waiting facility for village commuters.
The Bhumi Puja was conducted successfully in a traditional manner, reflecting local cultural values and community participation. The ceremony was formally initiated by the Principal of KG Reddy College of Engineering and Technology, the Sarpanch of Nakkal Palli Village, and the President of Lions Club – Jubilee Hills, symbolizing strong collaboration between the institution, community, and CSR partners.
The event was held in the presence of representatives from the Lions Club – Jubilee Hills, including the President, Secretary, Treasurer, and GMT Coordinator. It was also attended by the Head – CIST, Dean – R&D, Vice Principal, and Principal of the institution. From the village, the Sarpanch, Deputy Sarpanch, Ex-Sarpanch, Panchayat office staff, and numerous residents participated actively, demonstrating strong community support.
A key highlight of the project is its sustainable approach, wherein the bus shelter will be constructed using recycled plastic collected from Nakkal Palli village and the college campus. This initiative promotes waste reduction and environmental responsibility while ensuring durable and eco-friendly construction.
During the event, the Civil Engineering students presented the concept, design plan, construction methodology, and durability aspects of the project under the guidance of Mr. G. Ravi Kumar. The Bhumi Puja marks a significant milestone, reflecting CIST’s commitment to sustainable development, social innovation, and experiential learning.
