Chilkur Village Visit
On December 10, 2024, KG Reddy College of Engineering and Technology conducted a field visit to Chilkur village as part of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) program, organized by the Centre for Innovation and Social Transformation (CIST) and the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Student Chapter. Led by Mrs. P. Samyuktha, Head of CIST, and coordinated by faculty members Mr. D. Seshappa, Mr. B. Mohan, and Mr. Ravi, the visit involved 30 students from CSE and ECE departments. The objectives were to survey critical areas aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including clean water, waste management, affordable energy, and gender equality, while fostering students’ empathy and problem-solving skills. Students engaged with community members, collecting data on waste segregation and interacting with village officers. Key findings included the need for improved child welfare at Anganwadi centers and schools, better waste disposal and sanitation systems, and addressing social challenges related to gender roles, education, and women’s employment. Outcomes included initial action plans for awareness programs, pilot projects with local authorities and NGOs, and a heightened sense of social responsibility among students. The visit, conducted at no cost, strengthened community-academia ties and set the foundation for future sustainable development initiatives in Chilkur village.
