Domestic Violence Awareness Drive

Title of the Activity: Domestic Violence Awareness Drive Organized by: Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) In Collaboration with: Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) and Prayatna Club, Rai University Target Audience: Supporting Staff Number of Participants: 40 Date: 27th September 2025 Venue: Seminar Room (A1/GF/07) As part of the university’s commitment to community sensitization and inclusivity, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Rai University, in collaboration with Prayatna Club and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), organized an Awareness Drive on Domestic Violence exclusively for the supporting staff. The initiative aimed to create awareness regarding domestic violence, promote sensitivity toward gender equity, and highlight available support mechanisms. About the Program The highlight of the awareness drive was the screening of the Gujarati short film “Mahotu”, a National Award-winning adaptation of a short story by acclaimed writer Raam Mori. The film was carefully chosen by the IQAC coordinators for its poignant and realistic portrayal of domestic life, emotional struggles, and the silent suffering faced by individuals in abusive relationships. “Mahotu” beautifully captures the complexities of domestic violence, not just as a physical act but as a psychological and emotional experience that impacts self-worth, dignity, and human relationships. By showcasing the narrative in a regional language, the film resonated deeply with the supporting staff, ensuring relatability and greater engagement. Following the screening, an interactive discussion session was conducted by IQAC coordinators and faculty members. The discussion aimed to interpret the message of the film, relate it to real-life experiences, and provide insights into available support systems for victims of domestic violence. Participants were encouraged to share their thoughts, reflections, and learnings from the film. Objectives of the Activity ● To sensitize university supporting staff about the issue of domestic violence. ● To promote understanding of gender-based violence and its societal impact. ● To encourage open dialogue and awareness of legal and emotional support systems. ● To strengthen the culture of respect, empathy, and equality within the university community. Outcomes: ● Participants gained awareness about domestic violence and its various forms. ● The short film helped in connecting the message to everyday realities. ● The discussion provided a safe space for sharing and understanding. ● The session fostered inclusivity and awareness among non-teaching staff, aligning with Rai University’s vision for holistic campus development. Conclusion The Domestic Violence Awareness Drive served as a meaningful step towards nurturing a more sensitive and supportive campus environment. By combining the power of visual storytelling with dialogue, the IQAC, along with Prayatna Club and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, successfully conveyed the message that awareness is the first step toward change.
