Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy organised Counselling Programme For Government Isolated Suspected COVID-19 Patients

In order to support and assist the State Government and Local Administration to overcome the chaotic corona pandemic, the Jamal Mohamed College, Tiruchirapalli generously facilitated the college campus to be used as an Isolation Ward for suspected COVID-19 patients waiting for test results. In this regard, as part of decongesting the isolation wards at the Mahatma Gandhi government hospital (Tiruchirappalli), 71 suspected patients under testing were shifted from Government Hospital to Jamal Mohamed College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli on 6th April 2020. The patients were found to be under depression and struck with anxiety due to isolation. As per the principal’s instruction and with the due permission from the collectorate and other authorities, the UBA cell of Jamal Mohamed College organized a counselling programme for isolated patients under testing in association with the ATHMA Hospital, Trichy.

The programme was well planned with social distancing and aimed to give psychological support. Dr S. Ismail Mohideen (Principal) presided over the programme. Dr. K. Ramakrishnan, DPM, FIPS, a consultant NeuroPsychiatrist and Managing Director of ATHMA Hospital addressed the isolated patients under testing. He insisted on the importance of isolation, life-threatening dangers of COVID-19 virus, need of Loving God, power of prayer and mental preparation during this course of time. Further, he also shared the two mobile numbers of their psychiatrist and social workers to isolated patients for any kind of assistance whenever they feel uncomfortable.

Mr G.Aravindan, Head, Department of Social Work, ATHMA Hospital has been specially appointed to take care of this mobile counselling activity in this isolated ward. Mr. Louis, the Programme Officer, ATHMA Hospital was also present. Dr. H.E.Syed Mohamed, Assistant Professor of Zoology and Mr. B.Sirajudeen, Assistant Professor of Tamil and Executive Members of NAL ULLANGAL TRUST (An Alumni Association of JMC Students) assisted the team of doctors. Dr.A.K. Khaja Nazeemudeen, Secretary and Correspondent Hajee. M.J. Jamal Mohamed, Treasurer and other members of the management committee extended their fullest support and cooperation to the State Government and Local authorities in carrying out the isolation process for the suspected patients under testing and also in the counselling process meant for the isolated patients. Dr K. Sheik Fareeth, Assistant Professor of Social Work and Co-ordinator, UBA Cell co-ordinated the entire process and proposed vote of thanks.
