Memorandum of Understanding between Dogra Degree College and Indian Pollution Association on Waste Management in the Campus”

DOGRA DEGREE COLLEGE BARI BRAHMANA SIGNED MOU WITH INDIAN POLLUTION CONTROL ASSOCIATION ON SOLID-WASTE AND PLASTIC-WASTE MANAGEMENT The Eco-Warrior Club in collaboration with UBA Cell of Dogra Degree College organized an event for the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Dogra Degree College and the Indian Pollution Control Association today on 20th of October, 2023. The program was organized to sign an MOU on solid and plastic waste management. The chief guest of the event was Dr. Bela Thakur, Principal of Dogra Degree College, and Mr. Ranvir Singh, Regional Director of; the Indian Pollution Control Association was the special guest. The program started with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest, special guest, and the other dignitaries. The welcome address was presented by Ms Kanchan Dubey, Coordinator IQAC, DDC. She welcomed the guests, dignitaries, staff, and students to the event and appreciated their effort to do such a program for environmental awareness and to resolve environmental issues. The chief guest of the program included a formal session for the signing of the formally drafted MOU in the form of document duly signed by the agencies to show their common interest and understanding of environmental issues such as pollution, solid and plastic waste production, and its proper and scientific management. Principal of the college Dr. Bela Thakur, in her address, appreciated the efforts and spirit of the Eco-Warrior Club and UBA Cell for organizing such an event to step forward for the conservation and protection of the environment. This MOU will act as a ladder to achieve new heights in the field of environment and to find proper solutions to the problems related to the environment, she added. She expressed gratitude towards IPCA for showing such a gesture to sign an MOU with the institution and presenting a great platform to discuss, solve, and eradicate environmental issues such as plastic and solid waste. Mr. Ranvir Singh, Regional Manager, IPCA made the staff, students, and the audience aware of the various issues related to plastic waste and its management. He made the students aware of the IPCA and its role in eradicating certain issues related to the environment, especially solid waste management, he gave a detailed presentation on plastic, types of plastic, its role in environmental pollution, and how it affects the environment and the people. He also motivated students to take an active part in my 10 kg plastic campaign, which targets to collect 10 kg plastic waste from every individual per year. He assured the college management to collect the plastic waste by collecting the waste from the college, students, and staff and thus managing this waste scientifically and sustainably. He also motivated the audience to cut off plastic usage in their daily lifestyle so that waste production not only be reduced but eradicated. He also provided the people with certain alternatives to avoid plastics such as using cloth or jute bags in place of polythene bags, single-use plastic bottles should be replaced with glass or metal bottles, plastic straws with paper straws, plastic cutlery with wooden cutlery, and many more. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Palak Gupta, Convenor, Eco- Warrior Club. The program was well conducted by Mr. Ravinder Kumar, Faculty DDC. The students were highly motivated and pledged to be a part of My 10 kg Plastic Campaign by collecting waste themselves and also motivating their family and friends to do the same. The program finally winded up with the national anthem.
