Unnat Bharat Abhiyan – Solar Street Light Installation Programme
Under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) scheme of Indira Ganesan College of Engineering, a Solar Street Light Installation Programme was successfully conducted at Mudikandam Village on today 24.12.25. The programme was organized with the objective of promoting rural development and encouraging the use of sustainable and renewable energy sources.
The programme was inaugurated under the leadership of Er.G.Rajasekaran, Secretary, Indira Ganesan Educational Institutions. In his presidential address, he highlighted the importance of renewable energy in rural development and explained how solar energy contributes to environmental protection and electricity conservation.
The special address was delivered by Dr.G.Balakrishnan, Director, Indira Ganesan College of Engineering. He spoke about the objectives of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan scheme, the role of educational institutions in community development, and the social responsibility of students. The welcome address was given by Dr.M.Anusuya, Registrar, who warmly welcomed the chief guest, dignitaries, officials, and villagers.
The special guest of the programme was Rotarian AKS Dr.K.Srinivasan, Advisor, Indira Ganesan Educational Institutions and Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, Srirangam Branch, Tiruchirappalli. In his address, he emphasized the importance of community service by educational institutions and the need for initiatives that enhance the quality of life of rural people. On the same day, 1000 cloth bags were distributed to the public to promote environmental awareness.
Government officials and representatives from Mudikandam Village also participated in the programme. The notable participants included Mrs.Ajitha, Deputy Block Development Office, Mr.Pithamani, Village Administrative Officer (VAO), Mr. Marimuthu, Clerk, and Mr. John Sundarraj. They expressed that the project would be highly beneficial to the village community.
The programme was efficiently organized by Mr.S.Charles Jebabalan, UBA Assistant Coordinator, and Dr.Joseph Salethraj, UBA Assistant Coordinator. Their effective coordination ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the event.
In conclusion, the Solar Street Light Installation Programme received an overwhelming response from the villagers and emerged as a significant step towards environmental protection and sustainable development. The programme demonstrated that collaborative efforts between educational institutions and the community can significantly contribute to rural development.
