Virtual Rural Internship to Understand Grassroot Innovation
The Virtual Rural Internship to understand the Grassroot Innovators and their Innovations, organized by the Centre for Innovation and Social Transformation (CIST) in collaboration with the Palle Srujana was a significant step toward bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world challenges. Conducted from February 24, 2025 to March 1, 2025, the initiative focused on understanding the Grassroot innovations and innovators under the Palle Srujana programs rural empowerments, The program focuses on promoting sustainable agricultural practices, enhancing education, fostering entrepreneurship, and empowering marginalized communities, especially women. This Virtual aimed to understand the work being done on the ground and assess its impact on the local rural population. The active participation from 150 motivated students guided by
experienced faculty coordinators, Mr. B.Lingam, Mr. D.Srinivas, Dr. A. Sesshappa, Mrs. T. Sandhya, Mr. B. Mohan and Mr. M. Laxman, under the visionary leadership of Mrs. P. Samyuktha, Head of CIST. The Virtual Sessions also served as a learning platform for students to develop empathy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. By engaging with Innovators, students gained insights into the complexities of rural issues and brainstormed possible solutions, from water resource management to introducing sustainable waste practices and renewable energy options.
Students gain valuable exposure to how grassroots innovators think, design, and implement solutions that are not only sustainable but also tailored to local contexts. By observing these innovations firsthand, students develop an understanding of the challenges faced by rural communities and the importance of context-specific solutions.
This initiative highlights KGRCET's commitment to sustainable development and societal transformation. It underscores the institution's approach to integrating experiential learning into the curriculum, enabling students to become responsible citizens and contributors to social progress. The Virtual Sessions was not merely an academic exercise but a meaningful engagement that inspired students to think beyond conventional solutions, preparing them to lead in an interconnected and resource-conscious world.
