Installing biogas plants and distributing gas to households

Description:

Due to increasing prices of fossil fuels and taxes on energy sources, finding alternative, clean and economical source of energy has nowadays become a major concern for households’ and nations’ economies. Biogas is a natural form of biofuel produced by decomposing organic waste (Cow Dung). The biogas plant is installed at Inam Bairoji Akkarapalayam Village, Veerapandi Block, Salem, Tamil Nadu. In the village, most people rely on wood for household energy and cow dung cakes for cooking, which result in air pollution and causing health hazards, particularly for women, old age people and children.

As the village has a 50 kg/Month sufficient amount of animal waste like Cow and Buffalo dung waste were collected and dumped to Bio gas storage tank. Every week, the anaerobic biogas tank was agitated manually. Daily two times checking storage tank for maintaining anaerobic condition and bio gas measures. Around 20 kg of Biogas is produced per month.

Biogas (Methane - CH₄) will provide an ecological solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and produce organic fertilizer for agriculture using best practices in waste management. In total, three to five homes (nearly 7 to 10 people were benefitted) can be supplied with biogas from the installed large volumes of biogas digesters. The calorific efficiency of biogas in stoves ranges from 80% to 85%. Cooking with biogas is the most effective way of using biogas for household purposes.
