Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University (Maharashtra): Progress of Participating Institutions


Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University is one of the Regional Coordinating Institutes (RCI) identified for Vidarbha region under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan by MHRD. Being a Regional Coordinating Institute (RCI), the Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University (SGBAU) signed MoU with IIT Delhi in March 2019. The university guides, monitors & facilitates participating institutions working under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan in Vidarbha region.

Inauguration of Unnat Vidarbha Abhiyan

In presence of Padma Bhushan Dr Vijay Bhatkar (Chairman-Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and Vice-Chancellor of all universities and Directors of Institutes from Vidarbha region), inauguration of Unnat Vidarbha Abhiyan (UVA) was held on 19th January 2019 with the aim of rural development using the potential of education systems and government mechanism.

Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University organized a workshop on Challenging Issues in Village Development under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan at Deendayal Bahuuddeshiya Prasarak Mandal, Yavatmal on 24 June 2019. Deendadayal Bahuuddeshiya Prasarak Mandal Yavatmal has a vision of comprehensive Development of Pardhi & betterment of the families of farmers who committed suicide along with Comprehensive Development of Agriculture sector. The organization is also active in carrying out activities such as hostels, schools, SHGs, health services, vocational training related to the development of Pardhi & betterment of the families of farmers who have committed suicide & of the marginal farmers.

HVPM’s College of Engineering & Technology, Amaravati has been registered as a participating institute under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. Students from HVPM’s College developed a project named as “Environment Controlled, Automated GreenHouse for High Valued Agro Produce in Vidarbha Region”, which is an ultimate solution for developing good quality, high-value crop yield to handle the unpredictable environment in Vidarbha. The project was sanctioned under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0 & was presented on November 2018 at IIT Delhi. Inauguration of the project was done on 9th March 2019 by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Murlidhar Chandekar, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University (SGBAU) & Chairman-RCI in presence of various dignitaries. He appreciated the efforts taken by students and faculty members and further stated that this project would be an inspiration to all upcoming projects under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.

Programme on Cow based Economy & Rural Women 

A programme on Cow based Economy & Rural Women was organized on 13th March 2019 at Achalpur, Amravati. The programme was organized with the aim to discuss Cow based business and its propagation in rural areas. The programme was inaugurated by the hands of Hon’ble Sureshdada Haware, Chairman-Shirdi. He appreciated the efforts being carried out by the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan team for rural development. Further, he enlightened on the importance of cow and economic benefits. Hon’ble Nathpithadhishvar Jitendranath Maharaj (Shrinath Peth Anjangaon Surji) explained about various activities being carried out for the benefit of Cow’ by the trust. He highlighted various economical advantages of cow rearing and its byproducts for the benefit of society and economic generation. He explained the concept of organic milk farming and its benefit to society. He stressed on women empowerment through dairy development and its allied businesses. Further, he appealed all for the conservation of cow as its the symbol of our tradition from the ancient era.

Meeting with Officials of MSRLM & RCI SGBAU Amravati

Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University (SGBAU) organized a meeting at District Collector office, Yavatmal on 24th June 2019 to discuss ‘UMED’ which is a programme of Maharashtra State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM). The mission envisions poverty elimination through social mobilization, institution building, financial inclusion and the creation of several models of sustainable livelihoods so that each poor family is able to secure incremental annual income.

Project: Milk Chilling & Processing Unit at Amravati District

Linked with Mother Dairy, this project will provide facilitation to farmers through various awareness programmes for farmers as well as women in rural areas. The project’s objective is to create a need-based milk facility and make the best efforts to raise the farmers’ income and standard of living.

This project is considered as the primary requirement for Melghat as it will provide jobs to the tribals. Direct beneficiaries of this project are mid-cap and small-cap farmers as well as women living in rural and tribal areas.

Impact of the Project 

  • Within a span of 4 months, 1,08,000 litres of milk has been collected from the farmers.
  • ₹37,80,000 has been directly credited to the accounts of rural women engaged in the milk business.
  • Bank accounts of 20% of the rural women in the area have been activated.
  • Women’s self-help group highly motivated for this supportive business, Automatic encouraging for organic farming and digital banking.
