In a significant environmental initiative, SRM University students, faculty, and members of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) gathered to plant 5,000 palm seeds in the Mungil Eri area of Kolathur village, Chengalpattu district. This event commemorated the birthday of SRM University's founder, Dr. Parivendhar. The initiative, aligned with the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and Swachhata Hi Seva programs, underscores SRM University's commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility. Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus Life) and Nodal Officer for the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, led the event. Distinguished guests, including Mrs. Ashoka Dhanasekaran, President of the Kolathur Village Panchayat, Dr. S. Pradeep, Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at SRM University and Chair of ASCE South India Section, and Dr. M.B. Sridhar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at SRM University, graced the occasion. In addition to the palm seed planting, 100 tree saplings were also planted. Following the environmental activity, students shared their reflections on the importance of sustainable practices and community engagement.
