Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Nurturing Mentorship in Institutional Commitment in Higher Education”
The Research and Development Department of Indira Ganesan Educational Institutions, in association with the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) unit of Indira Ganesan College of Engineering, successfully organized a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on the theme Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Nurturing Mentorship in Institutional Commitment in Higher Education” on November 8, 2025.
The program aimed to enhance teachers’ mentoring skills, strengthen their institutional belongingness, and promote holistic professional growth. The inaugural address was delivered by Mr. G. Rajasekaran, Secretary, Indira Ganesan Educational Institutions, who emphasized the importance of mentorship in shaping responsible and self-motivated students. Dr. G. Balakrishnan, Director, highlighted the need for continuous learning and professional dedication among teachers, while Dr. M. Anusuya, Registrar, outlined the objectives and expected outcomes of the program.
The Chief Guest, Rotarian AKS Dr. K. Srinivasan, Advisor, Indira Ganesan Educational Institutions and President, Indian Red Cross Society, Srirangam Branch, Tiruchirappalli, in his address, underscored that teachers’ compassion and institutional discipline form the foundation of academic excellence.

The day-long sessions were highly engaging and intellectually enriching:
Session 1: “The Changing Role of Faculty” – Mrs. Geetha Shankar discussed how the role of faculty has evolved beyond teaching to that of mentors, motivators, and guides.
Session 2: “Mentorship and Student Engagement” – Mr. J.S.S. Manian emphasized understanding students’ academic, emotional, and career-related needs to foster better engagement.
Session 3: “Fostering Institutional Commitment and Retention Mindset” – Mrs. Geetha Shankar highlighted the importance of reconnecting with institutional values and working toward common goals.
Session 4: “A Journey to Teacher Wellness” – Mrs. Geetha Jayaram led an interactive yoga-based session on mental peace, balance, and physical well-being.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Faculty members expressed that the FDP was inspiring, practical, and directly applicable to their teaching practices. The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. Pon Christinal, Allied Health Sciences, and the Vote of Thanks by Dr. R. Bharath Kumar, Department of Biomedical Engineering. The program was excellently coordinated by the Research Coordinators — Dr. K. Chithradevi (Principal, School of Allied Health Sciences), Dr. T. Sriram, Dr. R. Bharath Kumar, and Dr. P. Varalakshmi — along with UBA Coordinators Prof. S. Charles Jebapalan and Dr. M. Joseph Selthraj. The FDP successfully fostered a spirit of mentorship, collaboration, and commitment, reflecting the institution’s ongoing dedication to faculty development and educational excellence.
